Chinese leather document box

Chinese document box, the wood box covered in pig skin which has been tanned, stitched and lacquered in a rich translucent red color, overall simple rectangular form, the cover hinged with a set rectangular shaped brass hinges to the box, the front with ruyi form lock hinge with double pin for a traditional Chinese bar shaped lock, against a stylised quatrefoil ruyi form plate, with suspended bail handless with quatrefoil escutcheons on each end.  Late Qing Dynasty, 19th century.
